Anti-mosquito trap to prevent the reproduction of the tiger mosquito

The BG-GAT (Gravid Aedes Trap) is a cheap, non-electric and very easy to use mosquito trap.

It is designed to reduce the population of tiger mosquitoes in the garden. Tiger mosquitoes include the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) and the yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti). These species are diurnal, highly aggressive and can transmit diseases such as dengue fever, Zika and chikungunya.

BG-GAT aims to capture tiger mosquitoes that are looking for a place to lay their eggs. Mosquitoes in this phase are few compared to those looking for a prey, it is therefore normal that the BG-GAT catches fewer mosquitoes than normal traps. It is precisely these mosquitoes that by depositing their eggs will allow an exponential proliferation over time.

Principle of operation

Females of the Asian tiger mosquito and yellow fever mosquito are attracted to water and other stimuli for oviposition. Mosquitoes enter the BG-GAT, pass through the black funnel and find themselves in the transparent chamber. Once inside the room, the mosquitoes will try to escape through the transparent windows, remaining trapped in the adhesive sheet. The net forms a barrier between the mosquitoes and the water in the lower chamber so that the trap itself cannot under any circumstances become a breeding place.

Neither electricity nor chemicals

The great advantage of this trap is that it is passive, i.e. it does not need current or other additional attractive stimuli such as CO2 or chemical attractants. It is therefore variously easy to use
